THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE
The achievements of women in all areas of research have been consistently overlooked compared to the achievements of their male counterparts. Therefore in December 2015, the United Nations Member States adopted a resolution to establish an annual International Day to recognize the critical role women and girls play in science and technology. The Centre for Gender and Science joined to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2016.
ANNUAL INVITED LECTURE SERIES
The Centre for Gender and Science holds annual invited lectures delivered by outstanding, interesting and promising early-career as well as more senior women researchers to present their research and reflect on their experience and career progression. The annual invited lecture series are motivated by the dual objective of presenting women researchers and their work to the public and presenting role models to the new generations of women researchers.
Since 2010 we have participated in Academia Film Olomouc, organising sections focused on gender and gender aspects in knowledge production, membership in the festival jury, participating in discussions and through exhibits.
The Centre for Gender and Science has organised the Researchers’ Night since the launch of European Researchers’ Night in 2005. The Researchers’ Night is a space to explore new communication possibilities between the scientific community and engaged citizens. We strive to build critical debates about gender and knowledge making, gender equality issues in research, and the responsibility science has toward society and nature.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK
Since 2008 the Centre for Gender and Science has participated in the Science and Technology Week, organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. We organize poster exhibits, discussions and lectures.
