It is a narrative that persists even to this day in some corners of biology and psychology. Interviews with female and male academics provide a more detailed view of the conditions for research and education in the Czech Republic, and of the attitudes of the organisations’ leaders to HR issues. The presentation offers the qualitative survey results and points to the ways in which institutional HR policies either alleviate or increase some negative effects of national research policies.

Marcela Linková is a sociologist.
