The successful candidate is to be employed by the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences – Centre for Gender and Science as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the project RESISTIRE (RESpondIng to outbreaks through co-creaTIve sustainable inclusive equality stRatEgies) funded under the call H2020-SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020-2 Advancing knowledge for the clinical and public health response to the 2019-nCoV epidemic.
The aim of RESISTIRE is to: 1) understand the impact of COVID-19 policy responses on behavioural, social and economic inequalities in the EU27, Serbia, Turkey and the UK on the basis of a conceptual gender+ framework, and 2) design, devise and pilot policy solutions and social innovations to be deployed by policymakers, stakeholders and actors in different policy domains. RESISTIRE will run in a three-cycle approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research with co-creation. The process will be repeated every 6 months, each cycle producing operational results and integrating insights from the previous one. Each cycle involves:
- Extensive mapping of policy and societal responses to COVID-19, secondary survey data, workshops with civil society, interviews with public authorities, and individual narratives collected from precarious and vulnerable groups, and translated into operational insights.
- Development of adequate responses and operational tools from a holistic perspective, with a co-design approach involving multiple stakeholders, with recommendations for actions for policymakers, stakeholders and actors in the field.
- Launch of pilot actions to demonstrate the potential impact of a range of proposed solutions.
- Dissemination of knowledge, development of policy recommendations and empowerment of stakeholders to exploit project results.
RESISTIRE relies on a strong multi-disciplinary consortium of ten European research, innovation, and design partners, with a well-established network of healthcare stakeholders. It is designed to achieve its results through multi-disciplinary research insights, cross-sectoral co-creation, solution development and a wide dissemination strategy.
Main duties and responsibilities
- The ISAS team is responsible for WP 2 leadership (policy and societal responses mapping) and for tasks 6.1 Operational recommendations and 7.4 Promotion of operational recommendations.
- The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the project under the supervision of the principal investigator of the Czech team, Dr Linkova; the candidate will provide practical advice and help for other Czech team members and perform other duties which may be assigned by Dr Linkova or Dr Stockelova. The post holder will also be required to liaise with colleagues in the other partner organisations in the consortium to coordinate work and task completion.
- To devise and carry out the research tasks to achieve the goals and milestones as described in the research grant, in particular Work Package 2 focused on policy analysis. This would include a significant element of independent work, e.g., the planning and execution of the research tasks, research analyses, and the write up of work for publication and for deliverable reports. Lastly, to contribute to the design and running of stakeholder workshops and open studios.
- To interact professionally with the supervisors at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and any other members of the collaboration to successfully deliver the project goals.
- To regularly communicate and write reports to the supervisor, compile data acquired appropriately and in a format that allows transformation of documented research results into high quality research papers.
- To comply with ethical and health and safety governance procedures.
- To communicate the results during regular research progress meetings.
Who we are looking for
We invite applications from a highly self-motivated individual with a strong interest in the analysing the impact of COVID-19 from an intersectional gender perspective.
The ideal candidate should have previous experience with gender studies, policy analysis and social science methods, in particular qualitative research. They should have strong organisation and time management skills, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and respect deadlines, and the ability to work independently with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
The applicant will have experience in interdisciplinary teamwork, good interpersonal skills to communicate in the project team, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
